TRIBUTE TO KULTURA EXHIBITION
Kultura,
review of free Poland.
Founded in Rome in 1946, then later
transferred to Maison-Laffitte in
the suburbs of Paris, Kultura played
an intellectual and political role
not only for Poland but also for
other central European and occidental
countries. Kultura greatly prepared
the changes in the heart of the
Soviet bloc after 1989. This review
allowed people to discover the work
of Polish authors that were forbidden
in communist Poland (Milosz, Gombrowicz)
but also the writings of Amalrik,
Solijénitsyne, Zinoviev or
Sakharov.
Symbol of solidarity with the people
subjected to the soviet domination,
the universal declaration of human
rights was published in Polish,
Cheque, Lithuanian, Russian, Slovakian
and Ukrainian. The archives that
were left (publications, letters,
documents…) make up a unique
source of information about the
countries that were subjected to
the domination.
