WELCOMING OF DELEGATIONS IN 2007 AT THE FOUNDATION SOPHIA ANTIPOLIS

 

 

21st of September 2007: a delegation from Peking, with the Vice Mayor at the head was welcomed at the Fondation Sophia Antipolis. The park was presented to them by Mr Masboungi and Mr Cabrol from the SAEM, insisting on its landscaping and it economic development. The cultural and scientific animation of the park was then presented by Mr Soulier from the Fondation.

This meeting took place around discussions relative to the content of the cooperation agreement between the vice Mayor of Peking, Mr Zhu Shanlu and the Senator Pierre Laffitte. It was agreed upon to improve this agreement and to sign it at a conference that is scheduled to take place soon in Peking.

The 16th and 23rd of August 2007 : “In the framework of a French language training programme, 2 groups of Swedish Deputies were received at the Fondation. They were able to meet, on the 16th of August, Mr Bournazel deputy Mayor of Valbonne, delegated to Economic Development, Tourism and Animation and Mr Prodhomme, secretary-general of the Interdepartmental Coordination Group of Sophia Antipolis of the Prefecture of the Alpes Maritimes; the 23rd of August, a meeting was arranged with Mrs Toulemonde, Deputy Mayor of Valbonne, delegated to Village politics, citizenship and Urbanism and Mr BOUCAND, Mayor of Biot. The objective of the Deputies was to better apprehend the economic development of Sophia Antipolis, through the experiences of local elected representatives. The afternoons were dedicated to French courses given by the training organism/Management Spåkutbildning AB/.”

Marie Florence Grenier-Loustalot succeeds Jean Paul Boisson in the role of regional delegate of the CNRS for the region of the Côte d’Azur.
Training physician, Marie Florence Grenier-Loustalot has since 1995 managed the central analysis service in Vernaison (Rhône), but also since 2000, a unity federation, the Institute of Analytical Chemistry (ICA). She has assumed her functions at the head of the regional delegation of the CNRS in Valbonne since the 1st of September 2007.

Friday the 31st of July: Visit from Mr Christian Sina DIATTA, Minister of Biofuel and Renewable Energy of Senegal in order to entertain the possibility of setting up a technological park in Dakar, and to benefit from the expertise of the Fondation Sophia Antipolis in this domain.

From the 16th to the 30th of July 2007: the Foundation Sophia Antipolis is going to receive the Young Arab Leaders that have come from the Bahrain to Sophia Antipolis.

In the Framework of a bilateral cooperation between Sophia Antipolis and the Bahrain Kingdom, the Foundation Sophia Antipolis and the Kuwait Finance House Bahrain (KFHB), the biggest investment bank in the Golfe region, have teamed up for the second edition of a Mentorship programme that will take place from the 16th to the 30th of July at Sophia Antipolis.

Composed of 14 students that were selected from amongst the best from the Bahrain Kingdom and 4 representatives from the KFHB, the delegation will meet company directors from the park on “entrepreneurial immersion” and elected department representatives.

 

The Kuwait Finance House Bahrain (KFHB) is an Islamic commercial and investment bank that has a mission of leading banking operations while respecting Islamic principles and helping to finance projects in accordance with the same principles. It is the second most important Islamic financial institution. The KFHB has invested in and disposes of a portfolio of innovative companies at an international level. In 2006 it launched the creation of a technological park in the Bahrain Kingdom, and approached Sophia Antipolis through a cooperation agreement.

6th of July 2007 : Korean delegation
A delegation of 80 people representing the Korean University Council was received at the Foundation Sophia Antipolis.

After a presentation the activities and the missions of the Foundation Sophia Antipolis in the park, the Korean delegation was able to notice the existence of links between the universities and the companies thanks to presentation of Jean François Carrasco, person in charge of the SAIC, industrial and commercial actions department, at the university of Nice Sophia Antipolis and the presentation of Géraldine Quétin, director of the PACA Est incubator.

 

To conclude this visit, a visit of the technological park was organised.

5th of July 2007 : Chinese delegation
People in charge of the Shenzhen High-Tech Industrial Park (SHIP) were received on the 5th of July 2007 by the Foundation Sophia Antipolis. This delegation was made up of 7 people from the “Administrative Office of SHIP”.

Throughout the morning, the Sophia Antipolis park was presented to them as well as the role of the Foundation. This meeting was accomplished through a passage at the 1st international showroom of renewable energies (ENR) where they were able to meet the people in charge of the A.V.E.M association (Future of the Mediterranean electrical bike) with whom cooperation was envisaged.

3rd of July 2007: PEGASE cluster delegation: Andalucía
The Foundation Sophia Antipolis made it possible for Andalusian companies such as Elimco, Navair, East Industrial Solution, Inespasa, Ghesa and Aerosur to meet with the PEGASE competitiveness cluster, with the view of participating in Research and Development projects under the aegis of the cluster.
After the presentation of the technological park, a discussion took place on the possible cooperations between the two countries.
Mr Pustake, energy advisor at the SCHITECH Park in Pune (India), also participated in this meeting.

Thursday the 28th of June 2007: Meeting of the European STAIRS project – Foundation Sophia Antipolis.

In the framework of the European STAIRS project aiming to identify regional valorisation and research models, the Senator Pierre Laffitte took the chair of a scientific comity made up of directors and presidents of Hewlett Packard Bulgaria, Get Telecom, CapinTech, European Investment Bank, Vinnova and from the German Federal Ministry of Teaching and Research.

The 28th of June, at 16h, a public session will be lead by the partners of the project (engage AG, Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe GmbH), with the support of the members of the scientific comity. This meeting has an objective of exchanging ideas and debating on the best detected practices on the subject matter of technology transfer mechanisms in research institutions.

22nd of June 2007 – Hellenic delegation at the Foundation Sophia Antipolis

Made up of representatives from the HTCI (Hellenic initiative of the technological proficiency cluster) ratified activity taking place under the auspices of the Hellenic Ministry of Development, that aims for the establishment and development of competitive technological proficiency clusters. Bases of cooperation have been addressed in the area of micro electronics, with a presentation from the SCS cluster.

4th of June 2007: Korean delegation
The Senator Pierre Laffitte received a delegation from the scientific park of DAEDEOK INNOPOLIS (Korea), which wanted to be informed on the IASP 2010 and the candidature of Daedeok Innopolis.

4th June 2007 : Brazilian delegation
Three professors from the Brazilian Universities of Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina and from Pontificia Universidade Catolica do Rio Grande do Sul were received on the 4th of June 2007 by the Foundation. These people were doing a world trip of science parks in order to carry out a benchmarking study for their scientific park "Sapiens”. A presentation of the PACA region and its economy was presented by Mrs Jacquet (Team Cote d’Azur), and then there was a presentation of the University of Nice (Mr. Carrasco and M. Caruba) with a particular focus on international links. Finally a presentation on the Sophia Antipolis park and the Foundation was presented by M. Soulier. These three professors seemed very interested in the possibility of creating an agreement between their science park (Sapiens), the University of Nice and the Foundation in order for them to benefit from our experience in management of science parks.

17th May 2007 : Austrian delegation
An Austrian delegation from the group Raffeisen (bank), as well as the Minister of Austrian economy Viktor SIGL, were welcomed on the 17th of May 2007. There was a presentation of the Foundation Sophia Antipolis and then a bus tour.

9th, 10th and 11th of May 2007: Bahrain delegation
The Foundation Sophia Antipolis received a delegation of internationally renowned architects, bankers and investors from the Kuwait Finance House Bahrain on the 9th, 10th and 11Th of March 2007 at Sophia Antipolis.
The objective of this visit was to understand the mechanisms and the exogenous and endogenous development of the Sophipolitan phenomenon. In the framework of the launch of the technological park in Bahrain, the KFHB envisage the launch of 50 million dollars worth of technological funds targeted at the Sophipolitan territory. In this regard, the Foundation Sophia Antipolis organised many meetings with companies, laboratories, training institutes and competitiveness clusters of the technological park.

20th of April 2007: Swedish delegation
Visit of a Swedish delegation from the Business Region Göteborg, made up of 25 people specialised in biotechnologies and in TICs. The competitiveness clusters in this domain were presented to them, on this occasion it was the two clusters Solutions Communicantes Sécurisées (Secure Communication Solutions) and Orphème. 2 workshop were then organised, the first one on TICs and the second on biotechnologies.

20th of March 2007 : Chinese delegation : HAINAN province


A Chinese delegation from the Hainan province was welcome to the Foundation Sophia Antipolis. This province, situated at the extreme south of China, is mainly composed of the Island of Hainan.
On the programme for their visit : a presentation of the Foundation Sophia Antipolis by Laurent SOULIER, a presentation of the SAEM by Mr. CABROL and a presentation by M. MASCARELLI as president of the TEAM Cote d’Azur.
Having been extremely interested by the running of Sophia Antipolis, they expressed the wish to pursue relations with the technological park.
To conclude this reunion, a visit on the park on electronic bikes was offered to them.

20th of March : American delegation : University of Colorado-Denver


An American delegation from the University of Colorado-Denver, made up of 30 students in MBA, was welcomed to the Foundation Sophia Antipolis.
On the programme for their visit : the presentation of an American company that situated in the centre of the technological park, in this case HP, by its Director M. Bossard, a presentation of the public incubation slide by Mrs. Quetin, Director of the incubator PACAEST and also a presentation of the Sophipolitan model. The Foundation Sophia Antipolis’s role in cultural and scientific development was also presented by Laurent SOULIER, person in charge of international and European affairs.
To conclude this meeting, a visit of the technological park on electronic bikes was offered to them.

Friday 16th of March : Finnish delegation from the Laurea University
An important Finnish delegation representing the LAUREA University was received on the 16th of March 2007. A cooperation agreement is being discussed and could notably incorporate a European shutter dedicated to competitiveness clusters and training. The putting in place of a passage office for a representative of the LAUREA University was also suggested in order to facilitate the links with the Sophia Antipolis Park.

15th of March 2007: Belgium delegation
In the framework of the cooperation agreement signed last December and in order to follow up the visit of Mr. Marcourt, the Walloon Minister of Economy and External Commerce, Mr. Renaud Degueldre, General Director of the Economic Office of the Province of Namur, came to Sophia Antipolis in order to prepare Walloon’s participation in the third cluster forum.

13th of March 2007: Belgium delegation
Visit of Mr. Marcourt, the Walloon Minister of Economy and External Commerce, with the aim of exchanging ideas on competitiveness clusters. The Foundation organised a work meeting with the competitiveness clusters of the P.A.C.A region.

12th of March 2007: Polish Delegation
A Polish delegation made up of representatives from the village of Varsovie and the advisor of the Polish Embassy (department of the commercial promotion of investments), was received on the 12th of March 2007. The Sophia Antipolis Park was presented to them. A second meeting took place the next day at the MIPIM showroom, where collaboration terms and conditions were discussed.

Mr. Thomas GOPPEL, Bavarian Minister of Science, from the research of art will be at Sophia Antipolis invited by Senator Pierre Laffitte on Thursday 1st, Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd of March 2007.
During his visit, the minister who is very interested in the state of research in France will visit the National Institute of research in information technology and automation, he will be received by Jean Antoine Désidéri, in charge of international relations, and Bruno Sialve for the Comore project on the treatment of water and the Shamash project for a biofuel. At the Eurocom Institute he will meet its director Ulrich Finger and Werner Sommer, director of the SAP and at the European Telecommunications Standards Institute, ETSI, he will meet the general director Dr.Walter Weigel.
A work shop is organised with the representatives from the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis and the higher educational establishments of the technological park, the competitiveness clusters, Sophia Euro Lab, the companies Lumilog and Electricité de Marseille.
A visit of the Foundation Maeght is also scheduled in the programme.
Dr Thomas Goppel, will be taken to a delegation that consists of:
- Dr. Hartmut Wurzbacher (director of the “research, planning in higher education and international affairs” department).
- Birgit Schmid ( manager of the “ university research for the Academy of Sciences” division)
- Isabelle Luber (collaborator of the manager of the division/ representative of European and international affairs and the planning of higher education).
- Professor Dr. Arndt Bode, professor and vice president of the Technische Universität München (Technological University of Munich) ; specialisation : information technology.
- Professor Dr. Dr.-Ing. e.H Adolf Birkhofer, professor of the Technische Universität München (Technological University of Munich) ; specialisation : the dynamic and the security of reactors.

26th-27th of February 2007: ISTOK.Ru meeting
In the framework of the ISTOK.Ru project that is supported by the European Commission, the Foundation Sophia Antipolis received on the 26th and 27th of February 2007, the first meeting of the group of experts in order to share their visions and experiences on the subject matter of EU/RU technological partnerships.
The meeting had the objective of discussing the strengths and weaknesses of such a collaboration, to debate the tools proposed for the ISTOK project and to share the work that needs to be carried out between the different experts.
A lot of different observations therefore enriched the work methodology.

The 29th and 30th of January 2007 : Fes Technovalley

The Foundation Sophia Antipolis will welcome a Moroccan delegation from the region of Fès Boulemane, lead by Mr. Taoufik OUAZZANI CHADI, President of the Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University of Fès and composed of the highest representatives from academic, institutional, financial and private environments.

On the request from the Fès Boulemane region, the Foundation Sophia Antipolis recently put together a study on the creation of a technological park. In order to materialise the results of the study, numerous amounts of workshops were organised and revolved around the subjects like:
“ Crafts, Patrimony and Tourism”, “Agriculture, Perfumes and Essences”, “ The new services linked to the T.I.C”, “ Health and Research”, “Sustainable Development”, “ Support for financial and innovation policies”, “Running, Management and Promotion of a technological park”.

As a result of these two working days a partnership agreement will be signed between the Foundation Sophia Antipolis and the members of the Moroccan comity of the Fès Technovalley project.
