General Directors of businesses,
Regional Research and Europaid.
With this title the Foundation
works with numerous experts
in the areas of innovation
and research policies, incubation,
risk capital, telecentre
and the promotion of the
technological park, etc.

EUROPE
INNOVA CLUSTER MAPPING (beginning
of September 2006, 24 months)
The
“Cluster Mapping”
project, of a duration of
2 years was submitted at
the beginning of January
2006 in response to a call
for tender of the European
Commission (DG Enterprises)
under the framework of its
European Innovation policy.
The aim of the project is
to carry out an extensive
cartography of the competitiveness
clusters of the 25 European
countries and to reinforce
people’s awareness
of European clusters.
The Fondation Sophia Antipolis
was assigned the role of
reuniting prestigious figures
in order to create a “Cluster
Memorandum” which
could be put to the ministries
concerned during a European
Summit in Sweden in November
2007.

ISTOK
(beginning
of November 2006, 21 months)
The
ISTOK.ru project, of a duration
of 21 months was submitted
at the beginning of May
2006 in response to a call
to legal tender of the European
Commission (DG INFSO) under
the framework of its international
cooperation policy.
This project aims to reinforce/create
relationships between European
and Russian players in the
domain of SICT. The Foundation
Sophia Antipolis has the
role of assembling a group
of 10 experts in ICT. The
Foundation will organise
and manage the 3 workshops.
At the end of the project,
it will be responsible for
organising a conference
of 50 to 100 people which
will take place in Sophia
Antipolis.

The
main goals of the ISTOK
project are to:

MEDNET’U (beginning
of July 2002, 48 months)
The
European MedNet’U
project aims to create a
Euro University –
Mediterranean and Distance
learning for both university
education and continuous
professional training. The
Foundation Sophia Antipolis,
as coordinator of the sub
project of continuous professional
training, carried out the
following activities:
- Organisation of a network
of partners
- Production of four continuous
professional training lessons
thanks to the technical
capacities of the Production
Centre (E-Management, Telework,
Project Management, Intellectual
Property).
- Organisation of the last
Steering meeting during
July 2006, in the presence
of all the partner projects.
- Follow up of the projects.
During
the last four years and
thanks to a network of 31
partner universities and
training organisations,
situated in 11 countries
across the Mediterranean,
the MedNet’U project
enabled:
- The creation of two common
curricula universities in
the sector of engineering,
producing distance learning
modules in four languages
(French, English, Italian
and Arabic).
- The realisation of more
than 25 continuous professional
distance learning modules
translated in four different
languages.
- The creation of the unique
technological Euro Mediterranean
network based on bi-directional
satellite technology for
transmission and reception,
installed in the 11 Production
Centres and the 31 Technological
Clusters of the different
partners.
The
Foundation Sophia Antipolis
is in charge of the coordination
of sub projects of continuous
professional training, and
contributes to the production
of educational multimedia
on subjects of management,
telework and intellectual
property.

Stairs
(beginning of September
2006, 24 months)
The
foundation Sophia Antipolis
is a partner of project
Stairs, a project which
aims to improve the mechanisms
of technology transfer
of research institutes,
in order to reduce the
launch time of new technology
and to accelerate high
growth markets. The Foundation
Sophia Antipolis is in
charge of organising 3
workshops. The first took
place in Sophia Antipolis
on the 28th of September
2006.

PROJECT
SWAN – MODUAL TRAINING
IN INDUSTRIAL AND INTELLECTUAL
PROPERTY – PROGRAMME
LEONARDO DA VINCI (beginning
of October 2006, 24 months)
Under
the framework of the Leonardo
Da Vinci European Project,
the SWAN project, of a
duration of 2 years, carries
the objective of the realisation
of multimedia training
around the subject of
Intellectual Property.
Eight European Public
and Private partners participate
in the project. The training
will be aims at those
working within innovation
and technology transfer
support and development.
The Foundation Sophia
Antipolis is responsible
for the elaboration and
diffusion of the contents
of the training, and offers
its expertise in educational
technology and the organisation
of distance learning.

Fes
(beginning of May 2006,
8 months)
The region of Fès-Boulemane
entrusted the Foundation
Sophia Antipolis to put
together a study of opportunity
of the installation of
a technological park in
Fès. This ambitious
project lies on a mutual
willingness to develop
the cultural and scientific
ground that makes up the
wealth of Morocco and
especially the Fès-Boulemane
region. The aim is to
offer a travel warrant
in order to notch partnerships.

MUTUAL
LEARNING PERFORMANCE –
MLP
The Foundation Sophia
Antipolis is a partner
of an initiative launched
by the IRE network in
April 2006 entitled Mutual
Learning Platform –
MLP.
The platform was designed
to bring together regional
policy makers and to enable
them to share their experiences
in the domains of research
and innovation, in order
that “the errors
and successes of one region
may fuel the experiences
of all the other regions”.
Created in 1996, the Innovation
Regions in Europe –
IRE network of the European
Commission, today encompasses
some 250 European regions.

NANOELECTRONICS
Call
to a project with the aim
of putting together a study
on “effectiveness
and efficiency of research
and development to improve
the competitiveness of the
European industry in the
micro/nano-electronic sectors”.
The consortium consists
of INNO TSD, the Foundation
Sophia Antipolis and SAME
(Sophia Antipolis micro-électronique).
The Foundation Sophia Antipolis’s
mission : putting into place
and the organisation of
a network of experts. The
group EVAN (Expertise, vision
and networking) that groups
together 12 European personalities
from the macro/nano-economic
sector. These experts met
up 5 times throughout the
year 2005 (Brussels, Sophia
Antipolis, Paris). Their
contribution covered 3 directions:
technology and expertise,
future vision of the nanoelectronic
in Europe, the network of
experts and scientific relations.
This group validated, every
now and then as the study
advances, the key points
of the final report. February,
May, September, November
2005.

EUROPEAN IDEAS COMPETITION
“GALILEO MASTER 2005”
This
competition is based on
the commercial applications
of the European satellite
system Galiléo.
The objective is to identify
ideas concerning the commercial
applications for satellite
navigation and to promote
individual ideas for the
bias assignments of prices.
After Airbus and Ariane,
Galiléo constitutes
the most important technological
programme and the most ambitious
of the European Union for
the next few years.
The company CU Log is the
prize winner of the Galiléo
Masters prize. November
2005.
