MARCH 2009

From 22nd January to 9th March 2009 : Expositions – “Living with reindeer” and “Images and People: Biodiversity on Siberian Terrain”

On the occasion of the 40th anniversary festivities of the technopole Sophia Antipolis, and of the International Arctic Year 2007-2009, the Cote d’Azur delegation of CNRS presents, in partnership with the Foundation Sophia Antipolis, their two new expositions.

Carried out by Sylvie Beyries, researcher at the CEPAM Sophia Antipolis, the exposition “Living with reindeer” deals with the biological and cultural adaptations linked with using reindeers in Siberia. The exposition is organised around 4 themes:

- Environment and mobility
- Health and dietary behaviours
- Techniques
- Symbolic aspects

Faced with such a hostile environment, reindeer and man have linked their existences, and pursue together the only way of life possible, that of migration / nomad existence.

Coordinated by Morgane Gibert researcher at the anthropobiology Laboratory of Toulouse III, “Images and People: Biodiversity on Siberian Terrain” is a public interactive exposition which presents many aspects of the biological and cultural diversity of Siberian populations. It is an interactive model which presents, in an attractive way, the work of the researchers on this icy tomb.
