Sophia Antipolis Foundation has
been chosen amongst other organisations,
by French government authorities
to make the public aware of the
big innovation funding schemes
in Europe (7th Programme Research,
Structural Funds, Innovation &
Competitivity Programme, EUREKA...).
This "Europe Training"
will address regional intermediaries
(staff from DRIRE, DRRT, SGAR,
OSEO, Regional Councils, Regional
Innovation Agencies, Consulary
Networks, Technical Centres, CRITT,
Universities, Research Organisations,
Technology Parks, Cluster Governance,
Incubators...). The 3rd training
day for the PACA region will take
place at the Sophia Antipolis
Foundation on Monday 28th April
2008 from 9am to 1pm - Picasso

Microsoft France presents the
IDEES programme to the Sophipolitan
startups
at 09:00am at the Fondation Sophia
Antipolis.
Following the convention signed
last November with Microsoft France
the Fondation Sophia Antipolis
will host a breakfast meeting
with the objective of familiarising
the start-ups in this sector with
the tools/software of the IDEES
(Initiative for Economic Development
of programmers and start-ups)
programmes.
The
goal of the IDEES program is to
sponsor 25 startups a year and
to provide them with technical
support (via the Microsoft Technology
Center), commercial and marketing
support to help with internationalisation.
The objective is to assist young
and innovating French startups
to become international software
leaders. This is an important
issue for Microsoft France because
it involves identifying our big
future partners, essentially those
who will innovate on our platforms
to serve our clients and previous
partners.

and New Technologies visit to
Sophia Antipolis
Regarding the Egyptian Minister’s
(Mr. Tarek Kamel) visit, a tri-party
convention of partnership was
concluded between the Fondation
Sophia Antipolis, represented
by its President Pierre Laffitte,
the ITIDA (Information Technology
& Industry Development Agency)
represented by Director Eng. Mohaed
OMRAN, and Smart Villages Company
represented by Mr. Raoul Abdel
Messih (Member of the Directorate).
This convention relates to four
major axes:
• Promotion and development
of joint actions aiming to support
internationalisation of Egyptian
and French companies
• Information exchange on
the activities of the clusters
and the participation in international
events
• Education: Introduction
of specific training, student-professor
exchanges
• Facilitating the participation
of Egyptian and French SMEs in
the programs of community financing,
in particular the FP7.

Antipolis to prepare for the Libyan
Presidential visit of December
2007.
The delegation met with the PACA
sea region cluster and the company
ACRI. The visit ended with a presentation
of the Fondation Sophia Antipolis
and thoughts about a declaration
of intention project.

regards to the visit of President
of the Republic Mr. Nicolas Sarkozy
in China from
26th to 29th November 2007,
the Fondation Sophia Antipolis,
represented by Director Roselyne
Koskas, participated in a forum
organised in conjunction with
UBIFRANCE and the Chinese Embassy
in Beijing. This
participation was an opportunity
to also present the task of the
Fondation in supporting and representing
various clusters including regional
Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur
clusters. Furthermore, the Beijing
visit presented an opportunity
to take part in the Beijing Forum
2007 on international science
parks, during which an official
agreement linking the Fondation
and Z-park (China’s main
park) was established.

on clusters with the topic: “SMEs
and Clusters: A reality to reinforce”
which will take place at the CICA
(Sophia Antipolis). Organised
in collaboration with the Directorate-General
of Companies, the Interdepartmental
delegation on installation and
competitiveness of the territories
and the Ministry for Higher Education
& Research and with the support
of the General Council of the
Maritime Alps, the community of
Sophia Antipolis Agglomeration
and the Regional Council of Provence
Alpes Côte d’Azur
this event will be a chance to
present initiatives from the clusters
to support the emergence of projects
coming from SMEs.
This
forum will also allow discussion
on various SME problems such as
the creation of research projects,
international actions, or business
funding. Everything will be looked
at from a testimonial, practical
and concrete perspective in order
to help discussion as much as
possible.

is going to receive the Young
Arab Leaders that have come from
the Bahrain to Sophia Antipolis.
In
the Framework of a bilateral cooperation
between Sophia Antipolis and the
Bahrain Kingdom, the Foundation
Sophia Antipolis and the Kuwait
Finance House Bahrain (KFHB),
the biggest investment bank in
the Golfe region, have teamed
up for the second edition of a
Mentorship programme that will
take place from the 16th to the
30th of July at Sophia Antipolis.
Composed
of 14 students that were selected
from amongst the best from the
Bahrain Kingdom and 4 representatives
from the KFHB, the delegation
will meet company directors from
the park on “entrepreneurial
immersion” and elected department
representatives.
The
Kuwait Finance House Bahrain (KFHB)
is an Islamic commercial and investment
bank that has a mission of leading
banking operations while respecting
Islamic principles and helping
to finance projects in accordance
with the same principles. It is
the second most important Islamic
financial institution. The KFHB
has invested in and disposes of
a portfolio of innovative companies
at an international level. In
2006 it launched the creation
of a technological park in the
Bahrain Kingdom, and approached
Sophia Antipolis through a cooperation
agreement.

the Israeli centre of Industrial
Cooperation for research and development
– MATIMOP, the
President of the Foundation Pierre
Laffitte, will receive on
Wednesday the 4th and Thursday
the 5th of July, Mr. Ygal
Erlich, President founder of the
Yozma group, leader in the area
of venture capital in Israel
and Mr. Yair Amitay, managing
director of MATIMOP.
This
centre of cooperation put in place
a technological incubation programme
presenting 25 incubation centres
all over the country.
The
delegation will meet the representatives
of the regional competitiveness
clusters, as well as venture capitalists.
Many B to B meetings have been
organised notably for Millénium
electric, Israeli company that
is leader in the area of clean
energy.

meeting for the European project
STAIRS – Foundation Sophia
Antipolis.
In the framework of the European
project STAIRS aiming to identify
the regional models of evaluation
and research, the Senator Pierre
Laffitte presided a scientific
comity composed of directors
and presidents of Hewlett Packard
Bulgaria, Get Telecom, CapinTech,
European Investment Bank, Vinnova,
and people from the German Federal
Ministry of Teaching and Research.
The
28th of June, at 16h00, a public
session will be lead by the
partners of the project (engage
AG, Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe
GmbH), with the support from
the members of the scientific
comity. This meeting has the
aim of exchanging idea and debating
about the best practices detected
on the subject of technology
transfer mechanisms of research
institutions.

on the theme of

capital finance of innovative
companies, Franco-German exchanges
and European perspectives
The
theme of the conference is the
putting in disposition of venture
capital for young businesses
with high growth in Germany
and in France. We will deal
with the beginning phase and
the growth phase. The comparison
of venture capital markets and
the way that the main venture
capitalists work in the two
countries will be completed
by the presentation of the juridical
and fiscal situations. The seminar
supports the Franco-German initiatives
that could lead to the putting
into place of a European venture
capital market.
