Foundation of sheltering research
The Fondation Sophia Antipolis, recognized as a public utility, modified
its status on the February 7, 2006 to become "Fondation of sheltering research" (legal status of sheltering research and science foundations). There are only three foundations which currently hold this title (“la Fondation de France”, “la Fondation de Recherche Médicale” et la “Fondation Sophia Antipolis”).
This status enables the Fondation Sophia Antipolis to create research foundations around research projects, which may benefit from the Mecenat law. Sheltered foundations are simple and supple mechanisms to encourage public/private partnership for the funding of research.
The Fondation Sophia Antipolis also encourages innovation and helps to facilitate the dissemination of scientific and technological culture.
Foundations sheltered under study or implementation:
Founded in June 2008, the CIGREF Foundation aims to:
- Carry studies on "the history of computerization" of large companies (1970 - 2010) in order to constitute a memory;
- Develop an international research program to assess the dynamics of professional practice of Information Systems and anticipate their impact on future management firms (2010-2030).
The Research Foundation was established at the initiative of the CIGREF Association, Computer Club of major French companies. CIGREF's mission is to promote the use of information systems as a factor for value creation and source of innovation for the company.

Founded in May 2010, the Foundation relies on the EIN Association, founded in February 2009 following the mission entrusted to Pierre Lafitte by the President of the Republic, to help develop innovation in the Mediterranean Sea regarding the objectives of the Union for the Mediterranean.
The sheltered foundation EIN intends to implement actions and partnerships in order to answer as best as possible to the mission of the EIN Association. The idea is to create a network based on the expertise of the Union for the Mediterranean in innovation to strengthen the capacities of countries bordering the Mediterranean, particularly in the south and east, to ensure a co-balanced development, particularly in all matters related to sustainable development, environmental protection, space management, water and energy.
